Litchi exports surge sharply, at high prices

Each day, at the Lang Son border gate, the customs office processed around 300-400 tons of fresh litchi to China.

As of early June 16, up to 7,365 tons of fresh litchi were exported to China from May 14.

The Tan Thanh Customs Department reported that they investigated vehicles and products and complete customs clearance procedures at the same time. Hence, it takes only 3-5 minutes, representing one third of the time previously required.

Meanwhile, Bac Giang and Hai Duong provinces reported a sharp drop in litchi outputs due to adverse weather.

Despite of the output decrease, the quality of the fruit was improved significantly. So far, over 30,000 tons of litchi was sold at the highest price of VND 70,000 per kilogram, said Mr. Tran Quang Tan, Director of the Bac Giang Industry and Trade Department. The Director also reported that the northern province is organizing the Luc Ngan-Bac Giang Litchi Week on June 16-23 in Ha Noi.

Director Tuan said that all litchi which are on sale at the festival were produced with VietGAP, GlobalGAP practices. These products have been shipped to tough markets, including the U.S., the EU, Japan with attached stamps and label of origin./.
