Moscow seminar seeks peaceful solutions to East Sea disputes

Lawyers and experts from several countries gathered at an international seminar in Moscow on Thursday to seek peaceful resolutions to East Sea disputes.

This was the second event of its kind held by the International Association of Democratic Lawyers (IADL) and the International FundThe Way for Peace. The participants from Russia, the US, the Philippines, Japan, Pakistan and Vietnam agreed that the militarization of the East Sea not only threatens regional peace and security but also affects freedom of international aviation and navigation as well as marine ecology. They suggested building an effective marine crisis management system, demilitarizing occupied entities, promoting fishing cooperation, and mobilizing all peaceful means to handle disputes based on the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and the PCA's ruling in 2016.

IADL President Jeanne Ellen Mirer said the Association urges all parties to settle East Sea disputes by peaceful means, and it will keep a close watch on the situation to ensure regional stability, peace and security.
