NA discusses personnel plan for presidential post
The National Assembly's year-end session today continues to discuss a personnel plan for election to the post of President, approve the appointment and dismissal of the Minister of Information and Communications, and listen to reports on socio-economic and state budget plans.
National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan told the meeting yesterday: To ensure the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam and promote responsibility and democracy in National Assembly activities, I ask National Assembly deputies to carefully examine reports and personnel documents for the National Assembly to discuss, elect, and approve. Based on article 74 of the Constitution of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Law on National Assembly Organization, a resolution of the 8th session of the 12th Party Central Committee, the National Assembly Standing Committee recommended Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, a 14th NA deputy, and a member of the NA delegation of Hanoi for election to the post of President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam for the 2016-2021 tenure.
Today the National Assembly Standing Committee will discuss and cast close votes to elect a President based on an electronic voting system. The vote counting result will be announced in the afternoon the same day. As a rule, after being elected, the President will swear an oath and deliver a speech to the NA. The swearing-in ceremony will be live broadcast on national television and radio.
