National Assembly Chairman arrives in Hungary, beginning official visit

National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue arrived in Budapest on Saturday afternoon (local time), beginning an official visit to Hungary.

Chairman Hue and the Vietnamese delegation were welcomed at Liszt Ferenc airport by Deputy Speaker of the Hungarian parliament István Jakab, Hungarian Ambassador to Vietnam Ory Csaba and Vietnamese Ambassador to Hungary Nguyen Thi Bich Thao, among others.

Vietnam-Hungary relations have grown significantly since the two countries upgraded ties to a comprehensive partnership in 2018 during a visit by Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

Hungary actively pushed for the approval of the EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and become the first EU member to ratify the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA).

Despite COVID-19, two-way trade hit 1.1 billion USD last year. Hungary has pledged soft loans worth 440 million euros for Vietnam to implement projects the two countries have given priority to.

Hungary has provided 200 scholarships to Vietnamese students each year since 2018. It also donated more than 250,000 doses of COViD-19 vaccine and 100,000 test kits to Vietnam.
