National Assembly’s first session to be shortened to ensure safety amid COVID-19

(VOVWORLD) – National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue said on Saturday that the first session of the 15th National Assembly will be conducted in the most effective and safest way with meeting time frame to be shortened and to close on July 31 because of a recent surge in COVID-19 cases.

National Assembly Chairman Hue and Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on Saturday co-chaired a meeting aimed at coordinating agendas of the first session of the 15th National Assembly.

Speaking at the meeting, Prime Minister Chinh said that high consensus has been reached on the content and method of organizing the first session as well as reports on 5-year economic and social development plans. He said the Government has weighed options for National Assembly deputies to attend the session with the spirit of safety first.

National Assembly Chairman Hue emphasized that at the 15th National Assembly’s  first session, in addition to implementing the personnel process, the National Assembly will listen to reports and decide on socio-economic plans, finance, budget, public investment, and two national target programs to create a framework for implementation in the next 5 years. These serve as the basis for the realization of the dual goals of fighting the epidemic and developing economy. To date, the session’s agendas have been carefully and thoroughly prepared.

The National Assembly Chairman said that most of the National Assembly deputies and the staff of the National Assembly Office have been vaccinated and tested for COVID-19.

The first session of the 15th National Assembly will take place from July 20 to July 31.
