NATO unveils new strategic concept

The NATO Summit in Madrid on Wednesday issued a joint statement stating that the Alliance’s leaders have agreed on a new and unified strategic concept and invited Sweden and Finland to join this military alliance. NATO’s new strategic concept identifies the key threats and challenges to regional security and outlines the path to addressing them. The strategic concept is intended to guide NATO policy in the coming years.

NATO will boost the number of troops on high alert to over 300000, according to NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. He earlier said that “the new military blueprint” would “drastically upgrade” the bloc’s eastern defenses. Some NATO combat groups in Eastern Europe will be enhanced to brigade level.
