North Korea tests railway-borne tactical missile

North Korea said on Friday that it successfully test-launched tactical ballistic missiles from a train in a drill on Friday.

The official news agency KCNA said on Saturday that a firing drill was held to “check and judge the proficiency in the action procedures of the railway-borne regiment”.

It was the third time North Korea has launched ballistic missiles since New Year’s Day. The previous two launches on Tuesday and last Wednesday involved what state media called “hypersonic missiles”, an act to build up North Korea’s new weapon system when nuclear talks with the US have stalled.

The US on Friday condemned North Korea’s latest missile launch, saying it posed a threat to Pyongyang’s neighbors and the international community. A State Department spokesperson said the US insists in a diplomatic approach to the North Korean issue and urged North Korea to sit down at the negotiating table. He also reiterated the US’ commitment to South Korea and Japan
