VGP – The disbursement of official development assistance in the first nine months of this year is estimated to reach US$4.1 billion, a 10% year-on-year increase, according to the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI).

Of the total ODA capital, the committed prioritised capital reached US$3.519 billion, including US$3.459 billion of borrowed capital and US$60 million of non-refundable aid, equivalent to 76% of the total amount of the same period last year.

The MPI said that the disbursement saw positive changes, particularly in projects and programs funded by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the World Bank (WB).

The ministry has worked with the WB to review projects with slow disbursement and coordinated with JICA to seek measures to prevent corruption in implementing transportation projects.

In September, several big ODA projects were inked, including a US$147.6 million program on supporting economic management and competitiveness (EMCC-2) and a US$358.11 million project on building the Thai Binh 1 Power Plant and an power transmission line funded by the Japanese Government; and a US$251.7 million project on managing inland transportation assets by the WB.
