OPCW inspection team to visit Syria

An inspection team of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) will arrive in Syria in a few days, said Syrian Deputy Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad on Wednesday.

He said the team cannot visit Khan Shaykhun town or Shayrat air base, where chemical attacks have occurred, due to security concerns. The inspectors will come to Damascus and the Syrian government will provide all necessary for the investigation.

A chemical weapon attack on April 4th killed 87 people in Khan Shaykhun town in Idlib province. The US blamed Syrian President Bashar Al Assad for the attack, but the Syrian government said they would never use chemical weapons.
