Oscars 2017: “Moonlight” beats “La La Land” to win best picture award

"Moonlight" directed by Barry Jenkins beat "La La Land" to win the best picture award at the 89th Academy Awards on Sunday in Los Angeles. "Moonlight" is a drama about a young, gay black man who has to struggle with life hardship, drugs, and gender discrimination, in a rough Miami neighborhood.

"La La Land" didn't sweep Sunday's 89th Academy Awards as expected, but it did take home the major awards. 32-year-old director, Damien Chazelle, made history Sunday night as the youngest person to ever win best director. Emma Stone, also won for best actress.

Casey Affleck took home the Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance in "Manchester by the Sea".

The best foreign language film award was for Iran's "The Salesman".
