OVs asked to bring Vietnamese farm produce to global value chain

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Tran Thanh Nam has called on Vietnamese entrepreneurs abroad  to promote trade and investment in the agricultural industry, saying this is a golden time to do that.

At an online forum Nam said Vietnam’s agricultural sector is restructuring toward increased added value, sustainable development, and developing agricultural value chains to connect small farmers and cooperatives with global value chains.

“The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development wants OVs to introduce Vietnamese farm products to foreign friends, especially products produced under the ‘One Commune One Product’ program. These products are highly qualified and represent the culture of Vietnam’s rural areas,” said Nam.

Nam added, “Vietnam’s agricultural sector needs support from countries around the world to reach the target set by the Government of becoming one of the 15 most developed agricultural sectors in the world and a global logistical center of agricultural trade.”

The online forum was attended by more than 300 Vietnamese people living and doing business abroad and hundreds of businesses engaged in agriculture.

More than 5 million OVs are living and working in 190 countries and territories. They have invested 11 billion USD in some 3,500 projects and businesses in Vietnam, and many of them have been pouring money into Vietnam’s  agricultural sector.
