Party chief meets Indonesian top legislative leaders

The enhancement of Viet Nam-Indonesia Strategic Partnership not only meets the benefits of their peoples but also contributes to establishing a united and strong ASEAN and peace, stability and development in the region and the world.

The statement was made by Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and Regional Representatives Council (DPD) Speaker Oesman Sapta Odang on August 22 during their meeting on the occasion of the Vietnamese Party chief's official visit to Indonesia.

Mr. Oesman Sapta Odang expected that the Vietnamese leader and the high-ranking delegation's official visit to Indonesia will create a force to strengthen the two nations' Strategic Partnership.

Mr. Trong hailed the increasing status of Indonesia in the world, expressing his hope that Indonesia will gain more achievements in the future.

The host affirmed that he will do his utmost to accelerate the multi-faceted relationship between the two sides, including experience sharing in supervision activities of the Government and promote local-to-local exchanges, such as Ha Noi and Jakarta.

The two leaders agreed that the development of cooperation between their State power agencies at central and local levels as well as between groups of parliamentarians will help increase the operational efficiency of Viet Nam's National Assembly and Indonesia's legislative bodies.

The same day, Party chief Nguyen Phu Trong met with Speaker of the People's Representative Council of Indonesia Setya Novanto.

At the meeting, Mr. Setya Novanto asserted that Indonesia attaches importance to maintaining and continuing the friendship relations and multi-faceted cooperation with Viet Nam.

They consented that Viet Nam and Indonesia hold crucial roles in ASEAN and become trusted partners. So far, they need to make efforts in expanding relations between their Parties, Governments, Parliaments and people to strengthen their Strategic Partnership.

The two sides were unanimous in accelerating economic and trade relations, heading to the two-way trade turnover of US$8 billion by 2018 and US$10 billion in the future.

They highly appraised the comprehensive, active and effective relations between the Vietnamese National Assembly and the People's Representative Council of Indonesia in both bilateral and multi-lateral aspects, supposing they need to boost cooperation in all fields, including delegation and experience exchanges between their legislative bodies.

They agreed to closely cooperate and support each other at international and regional forums, such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) and the Asia Pacific Parliamentary Forum (APPF).

The Vietnamese leader was asked to convey Speaker of the People's Representative Council of Indonesia Setya Novanto's invitation to National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan to attend the IPU Assembly in next September in Bali.

The same occasion, Party chief Nguyen Phu Trong met with Deputy Speakers of People's Consultative Assembly Evert Ernest Mangin Dan and Hidayat Nur Wahdid.
