Party General Secretary chairs Central Military Commission’s meeting

The Central Military Commission (CMC) of the Communist Party of Viet Nam held a meeting in Ha Noi on August 29 to review the results obtained in leading and directing the implementation of military and defence tasks and the law making work in regards to the field of national defence in recent times.

The conference was chaired by Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, Secretary of the CMC. Among those in attendance were Tran Dai Quang, Politburo member, State President and Member of the CMC's Standing Board; Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Politburo member, Prime Minister and Member of the CMC's Standing Board; and Gen. Ngo XuanLich, Politburo member, Deputy Secretary of the CMC and Minister of Defence.

Addressing the event, General Secretary Trong spoke highly of the outcomes attained by the CMC and the Defence Ministry in directing the serious and effective execution of the Party and State's guidelines on building the all people's nationaldefence and building a revolutionary, regular, elite and modern army, as well as in collaborating closely with the forces specialized in maintaining political security and social order and safety across the country.

In addition, the CMC and the Ministry of Defence have directed the effective implementation of international integration and defence diplomacy, contributing to strengthening a peaceful and stable environment in service of national construction and development, whilst leading the army to perform well the role as a core force in disaster prevention and mitigation and rescue work, the Party chief said.

Concerning orientations and tasks in the near future, General Secretary Trong requested that the CMC and the Defence Ministry need to lead and direct the comprehension and implementation of the Party Central Committee's directives and resolutions; perform well the function of providing strategic military and defense advice, to avoid falling into a passive position in any circumstance; and direct collaboration in implementing the 14th National Assembly's law making programs in regards to the field of national defence, including the prompt finalization of the draft revised Law on National Defence.
