General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong will pay an official visit to China from October 30 to November 2.  Chinese media and experts say the visit reflects the special importance of Vietnam-China relations. In an article on Wednesday, the Global Times of the People’s Daily of the Communist Party of China, emphasized that General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong will be the first foreign leader to visit China after the conclusion of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC). This is also Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s first visit to China since being re-elected for a third term.

The article quoted Ms. Pan Jin E of the Institute of Marxism under the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences asserting that the visit reflects the special importance of Vietnam-China relationship which has gone beyond the concept of bilateral ties to embrace the strategic significance.

The meeting between the Party leaders will create a great impetus for further cooperation between government agencies and localities of the two countries.

Ji Hong Liang, Deputy Director of ASEAN Institute of the Guangxi Provincial Institute for Nationalities, published an analysis in the Global Times, saying that 5 years ago, Party General Secretary Xi Jinping chose Vietnam as his first overseas destination after the 19th CPC Party Congress which manifested the tradition of enhancing high-level exchanges between the two Parties and countries following their Party Congress.

He said General Secretary Trong’s visit to China after the 20th CPC National Congress will be of great significance for China and Vietnam in furthering bilateral ties.
