Philippines shopping mall fire claims 37 lives

37 people died in a fire that engulfed the NCCC shopping mall in the southern Philippines city of Davao on Saturday, authorities said on Monday.

All 37 were call center agents working for Research Now Survey Sampling International (SSI), an American company based in the mall. The cause of the fire is unclear but the government is launching a criminal investigation. The fire started on the third floor, which houses products like fabrics, wooden furniture and plastic ware, so the fire quickly spread and it took authorities 16 hours to put it out.
