PM calls for further economic ties with Poland, welcomes tourism ambassador
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc received Polish Ambassador Wojciech Gerwel in Hanoi on Wednesday, saying he believes that Mr. Gerwel, having served as a trade counsellor in Vietnam for many years, will bring bilateral economic and trade ties to a new level.
Prime Minister Phuc promised to create favorable conditions for Ambassador Gerwel in strengthening partnership with Vietnamese ministries, departments, and localities. There is much room for trade ties to expand, he said, noting that bilateral trade revenue could increase sharply from the current level of 1 billion USD.
Ambassador Gerwel said he is honored to assume this position, adding that Polish diplomats are impressed with Vietnam's rapid development. Mr.Gerwel said that during his term he will prioritize enhancing cooperation in politics, economy, education-training and culture with Vietnam, and hopes for closer coordination between the Polish Embassy and Vietnam's ministries, sectors, and localities.
The same day, Prime Minister Phuc welcomed professional golfer Greg Norman, an Australian citizen just appointed Vietnam's Tourism Ambassador. Mr. Phuc said Vietnam's goal is 30% annual growth in tourists, making tourism a spearhead economic sector. He asked Mr. Norman to contribute his ideas for attracting more foreign visitors to Vietnam, and promote Vietnam's image to the world.
