PM chairs meeting on landslide settlement

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on Thursday had a meeting with leaders of ministries, sectors, and localities on emergency support for victims of flash floods and landslides.

He said the policy of the state is to provide food and shelter to every victim in need after a natural disaster.

PM Phuc said emergency support must be timely and ensure suitable long-term resettlement for evacuees. He said: Central and local agencies need to take urgent measures to help victims of typhoons, flooding, and landslides to overcome their difficulties, especially homeless people. We need to settle this problem using all necessary resources. In addition, we need to help them stabilize their lives and restore production.

Since the beginning of this year, Vietnam has suffered 12 flash floods and landslides, resulting in 40 people dead, 14 missing, and damages totaling 43 million USD. Affected provinces were Lai Chau, Ha Giang, Dien Bien, Cao Bang, and Tuyen Quang.
