PM Pham Minh Chinh meets RoK President, UN Secretary General

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had a meeting with the Republic of Korea’s President Yoon Suk-yeol in Phnom Penh on Saturday.

At the meeting, held on the sidelines of the 40th and 41st ASEAN Summits and related meetings, the Prime Minister proposed that the two sides continue to bolster their collaboration in economy, investment, trade, and official development assistance.

He asked for the RoK’s support in industrialisation and modernisation as well as cultural industry development, and continuous assistance for Vietnamese citizens and Vietnamese-origin Koreans in the RoK to settle down and make more contributions to the socio-economic growth of both the RoK and Vietnam.

For his part, President Yoon pledged to cooperate with Vietnam in areas of its strength and Vietnam’s demand such as digital transformation, cyber security, and biotechnology.

Earlier on Friday, the Prime Minister met UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres. They shared the view that next year will continue to be a challenging time for the world, with global issues requiring joint efforts while strengthening national resilience and self-reliance in terms of financial, food and energy security. Secretary General Antonio Guterres voiced his pleasure with Vietnam’s contribution to the UN and praised Vietnam’s efforts in post-pandemic economic recovery.
