PM wants new approaches to improve fire prevention and response

The prevention and control of fires, explosions, and accidents have improved over the past 5 years, the Ministry of Public Security reported at Monday’s national teleconference on implementation of a Government decree on rescue and firefighting. Addressing the conference virtually connected with 63 provinces and cities nationwide, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said, “Recent tragic fire deaths are a warning that the situation requires new, ways of thinking and approaches to fire prevention and response that ensure the safety of human lives, which must be prioritized over property.”

As a result, it’s necessary “to strengthen fire prevention, firefighting, and rescue, with respect to personnel, technology, equipment, and the responsibilities of every relevant agency, locality, and individual,” Mr. Chinh stressed.

The government leader conveyed his deep condolences to the families of victims of recent fires and asked agencies and localities to provide financial and emotional support to those families.

During the reviewed period, the Ministry of Public Security has mobilized more than 200,000 officers and soldiers and 30,000 vehicles to carry out rescue activities for 18,000 fires, explosions, accidents, and other incidents.
