Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s attendance at the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) and his working visit to the UK, and official visit to France were of great success, said Deputy Foreign Minister To Anh Dung. Deputy Foreign Minister To Anh Dung told the press on Saturday that Vietnam’s attendance at the COP26 conference a specific step in implementing the foreign policy set out at the 13th National Party Congress on continually improving the quality and effectiveness of Vietnam’s foreign affairs and international integration.
The attendance reaffirms Vietnam’s strong message to all international friends about a responsible, proactive and active Vietnam in addressing climate change, one of the global biggest and most concerned challenges today.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and the Vietnamese delegation had more than 20 meetings and bilateral meetings with senior leaders of countries around the world, including strategic partners, major partners, and leaders of international finance, energy and environment organizations, to promote cooperation between Vietnam and other countries and partners.
The Prime Minister’s visits to the UK and France gained many strategic results. During talks and meetings, PM Chinh and leaders of these countries agreed to increase high-ranking visits and boost cooperation through the channels of the State, the Government, and the National Assembly and people-to-people exchanges. They underscored the need to soon resume cooperation mechanisms between ministries, sectors and localities as well as trade and travel among countries, strengthen cooperation in economic recovery and development, and make the most of the EU-Vietnam free trade agreement (EVFTA) and the UK-Vietnam free trade agreement (UKVFTA), with focus on programs on clean energy, organic agriculture, digital economy, and innovation.
Leaders of the UK and France said they support Vietnam in international issues including in response to climate change, security, safety and freedom of navigation and aviation based on the respect for international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
The Prime Minister witnessed the signing of nearly 60 Memorandums of Understanding with a total investment value of more than 30 billion USD.
