Pompeo: US makes ‘no concessions’ to North Korea

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said on Wednesday that Washington is prepared to walk away from nuclear talks with North Korea if an upcoming meeting between President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un heads in the wrong direction.

In his opening remarks at a House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing on Wednesday, Mr. Pompeo said the US campaign to pressure Pyongyang is bearing fruit and the pressure will not change until credible steps are taken toward the complete, verifiable and irreversible denuclearization of the Korean peninsula. Mr. Pompeo said the US has no intention of making concessions to Pyongyang in talks scheduled for June 12 in Singapore. Mr. Pompeo said he is optimistic about a result beyond expectations.
