President Nguyen Xuan Phuc,  who is also Chairman of the National Defence-Security Council and Commander of the people’s armed forces, on Sunday visited and inspected combat readiness of the High Command of the Military Region 5.

In his address, the President praised the Military Region 5’s efforts and achievements over the past year, particularly its support for localities to boost socio-economic development and ensure national defense and security.

Emphasizing the importance of the Military Region 5, President Phuc asked its officers and soldiers to strengthen combat readiness to get prepared for any incident and non-traditional security threats.

The President asked the Party Committee and the High Command of the Military Region 5 to ensure a happy Tet for soldiers whose families are social beneficiaries or disadvantaged, especially for those living in mountain, border and island areas.

He stressed the importance of strengthening defense diplomacy and building a border of friendship, peace, and cooperation between Vietnam and Laos and Cambodia.
