Prime Minister Reaffirms Commitment to Road Safety in Meeting with UN Envoy.

Bangkok: The Prime Minister of Thailand, Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra, has underscored her dedication to enhancing road safety during a meeting with Mr. Jean Todt, the UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy for Road Safety. The meeting, which took place as part of Mr. Todt's official visit to Thailand, highlighted mutual efforts between the Thai government and the United Nations to foster a society free from road accidents. According to Thai News Agency, the Prime Minister expressed her gratitude towards the United Nations for its continued support and emphasized the strong relationship between the two entities. She reiterated Thailand's commitment to working collaboratively with international organizations to enhance road safety at national, regional, and global levels. The discussions between the Prime Minister and the Special Envoy focused on the critical role of integrating efforts across various government and private sectors, as well as international entities, to raise awareness about road safety. Both l eaders acknowledged that such cooperation is vital for improving road safety standards in Thailand. Furthermore, the Special Envoy invited the Prime Minister to participate in the UN Global Campaign for Road Safety. This initiative aims to promote safe, inclusive, and sustainable roads worldwide through measures such as advocating for seat belt use, safe driving practices, helmet usage, and discouraging texting and drunk driving. As part of the meeting, the Special Envoy presented the Prime Minister with helmets from the UN-supported Road Safety project. These helmets, designed to reduce car accident fatalities, cost less than 20 US dollars and adhere to UN safety standards.
