PWA Initiates Mini Stations for Drinkable Tap Water to Enhance Public Service.

Bangkok: The Provincial Waterworks Authority (PWA) is advancing its organizational and service enhancements, focusing on the introduction of Mini Stations to provide drinkable tap water across the region, aligning with government policies to improve public access to clean water. According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Jakkraphong Khamchan, Governor of the PWA, announced the strategic direction for 2025, emphasizing the organization's commitment to improving public services and organizational excellence in the water utility sector. The initiative aims to maximize benefits by utilizing limited resources, enhancing the quality of life, and addressing government policies to reduce inequality and increase access to clean drinking water. The Mini Station Clean Drinking Water Project is currently in a pilot phase at 10 locations nationwide, with plans to expand to Bueng Kan Province. Mr. Jakkraphong outlined a comprehensive investment plan exceeding 11,611 million baht, targeting construction and expansion projects, wa ter distribution efficiency improvements, and the expansion of water service areas through over 621 projects. These efforts aim to provide clean water access to an additional 235,000 households, enhancing the quality of life for more residents. To mitigate potential service disruptions due to water shortages, the PWA is implementing measures to predict and monitor at-risk areas, particularly during dry seasons. The organization is also focusing on social and environmental responsibility through a CSR project from 2025 to 2029, aiming for sustainability by leveraging knowledge and expertise to create shared value with stakeholders. Mr. Jakkraphong affirmed the PWA's commitment to developing tap water services in alignment with the PWA FIRST policy, adhering to government and Ministry of Interior directives. With a budget allocation of 4.5 billion baht for 2025, the PWA aims to expand its service reach to every district nationwide, currently servicing every district in 11 provinces. For the immediate future, the PWA's strategy includes maintaining service standards with an aim to add 235,000 new customers by 2025. Mid-term goals for 2026-2027 involve integrating digital technology for sustainable operations, while long-term strategies from 2028-2029 focus on revenue flexibility. Mr. Jakkraphong noted that water prices have remained unchanged for 15 years, and any future adjustments would involve restructuring water user types to minimize impacts on residents while reducing unnecessary expenses.
