Russia opens possibility to renew cooperation with the US in Syria issue

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said there's an opportunity to renew the US-Russia relationship in resolving the Syria crisis.

In an interview with the National Interest Magazine on Wednesday, Lavrov appreciated US President Donald Trump's saying that fighting terrorism is his number one international goal. Russia will be sharing this approach, Lavrov said. Terrorism is a universal threat, so when one country interferes in fighting terrorist manifestations, it's in the interest of their country. He added that the countries have to be faithful to international law.

Russia, Iran, and the Hezbollah joined forces to fight terrorism in Syria when they received a request from the Damacus legal administration, which is different from the so-called military task of the US-led coalition forces. Lavrov said he would have a meeting with US State Secretary Rex Tillerson in April.
