Russia to develop short and mid-range missiles to counter US

Russian President Vladimir Putin said Wednesday that Moscow will take action to counter the threat of a ground-based cruise missile recently tested by the US.

He said during a visit to Helsinki, Finland, that he is concerned that the recently tested missile can be fired from launching sites in Romania and soon will be installed in Poland. It only requires a change in software.

He said the missile poses a danger to Russia's security, and Moscow will take countermeasures, including the development of its own ground-launched short- and mid-range missiles. President Putin reiterated Russia's readiness for dialogue.
