Russia, Turkey, Syria defense ministers hold talks

Russia’s Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu and his Syrian and Turkish counterparts held talks in Moscow on Wednesday, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.

The officials discussed ways to resolve the crisis in Syria, the refugee issue and, joint efforts to combat extremist groups.

The 3 ministers said the meeting took place in a positive atmosphere, and emphasized the need of further dialogue to stabilize the situation in Syria and the region.

Earlier, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan proposed to Russian President Vladimir Putin the establishment of a tripartite mechanism involving Turkey, Russia, and Syria to promote diplomacy between the parties.

The three countries will hold meetings at intelligence agencies, defense ministers, and foreign ministers, and possibly leadership summits.
