Russian Duma votes to withdraw from missile treaty

Russia's State Duma on Tuesday voted to suspend the 1988 Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty (INF), a multilateral agreement signed by Russia and the United States that prohibits deploying or testing both short- and medium-range missiles.

Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin said the decision was made to protect Russia's interests, adding that the US's unilateral suspension of the treaty has put global security system at risk.

Russian Senator Sergei Tsekov said the Senate will begin to debate the measure next Wednesday.
