Saudi Arabia expels Canadian ambassador

Riyadh has expelled the Canadian ambassador, recalled its own ambassador and suspended new trade and investment with Canada, after Canada urged Saudi Arabia to release jailed civil rights activists.

Saudi Arabia gave the Canadian ambassador 24 hours to leave the country.

It will also freeze all new trade and investment deals with Canada, while reserving the right to take further measures, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

Saudi Arabia considers Canada's statement about civil rights activists to be baseless and an interference in its internal affairs.
