SEA Games 29 kicks off in Malaysia

The 29th Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) kicked off on Saturday night at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium in central Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

This is the 6th time Malaysia hosts the event. This year's SEA Games opening ceremony, themed Shine bright together, was consulted by veteran event organizer Francis Danker and directed by talented art director Saw Teong Hin. Malaysia spent 105 million USD on the Games, 6 times more than the cost estimated in 2013.

All tickets for the opening ceremony were sold with 84.000 people attending. About 14.000 security staff were deployed to ensure security.

SEA Games 2017 will close on August 31, which falls on the 60th anniversary of Malaysia's Independence Day.
