Senior US officials to travel to China, RoK, Japan

A high-level US delegation will travel to China next week to follow up on President Joe Biden’s recent talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Bali, Indonesia, the US State Department said on Saturday. Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs Daniel Kritenbrink and National Security Council Senior Director for China and Taiwan Laura Rosenberger will travel to China, the Republic of Korea, and Japan from Sunday to Wednesday, the State Department said in a statement.

The State Department said the delegation will follow up on the Biden-Xi meeting to continue responsibly managing the competition between the two countries and to explore potential areas of cooperation. The trip will also prepare for Blinken’s early 2023 visit to China.

Blinken reaffirmed late last month that the US does not seek conflict with China amid increasing competition between the two powers in multiple areas.
