SHOOTING INCIDENT IN DHAKA, BANGLADESH ON 1 JULY 2016

A shooting incident occurred on 1 July 2016 at the Holey Artisan Bakery Cafe, a popular dining area for foreigners in the city of Gulshan, Dhaka, Bangladesh. Initial reports indicate that two perpetrators randomly fired shots on the premises, killing three police officers and injuring 30 people. Some 20 people of different nationalities, mostly Italian, are still being held hostage by nine armed men.

Malaysia condemns in the strongest terms this cruel act. The Government of Malaysia calls on the Government of Bangladesh to intensify efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice, as well as pursue efforts towards securing the release of the hostages. The Government of Malaysia expresses its deepest condolences and sympathies to the Government and people of Bangladesh, especially to the families of the victims.
