President of the Republic of Sierra Leone Julius Maada Bio began an official visit to Vietnam on Monday at the invitation of President Nguyen Xuan Phuc. Since Vietnam and Sierra Leone established diplomatic relations in 1982, the two have maintained a good political relationship. They have cooperated economically and in other fields. In 2020, two-way trade exceeded 49 million USD, up 200% from the 17 million USD recorded in 2018.

This visit will bolster bilateral ties as African countries like Sierra Leone seek to expand their relations with Asia-Pacific countries like Vietnam.
