South Korea, US agree to enhance joint defense ties

The defense chiefs of South Korea and the US have reaffirmed their robust alliance and agreed to closer cooperation between their defense forces one day after a new ballistic missile launch by North Korea. According to Seoul’s defense ministry, Minister Suh Wook and US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin held phone talks on Thursday and condemned the North’s missile launch as a clear violation of UN Security Council resolutions. The defense chiefs also denounced any actions that threaten peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula and in the Indo-Pacific region.

The South Korean ministry said the two sides will closely cooperate on deterrence and enhance their combined defense posture.
