State President greets U.S. Senator McCain

State President Tran Dai Quang hosted a reception for a delegation of the U.S. Senate Committee on Armed Services led by its Chairman Senator John McCain on June 1 in Ha Noi.

State President Quang said he treasured important contribution of Senator John McCain and U.S. friends to the developments in the bilateral ties in a practical and effective manner and on the regional and global arena.

He affirmed that Viet Nam regards the U.S. as one of its important partners and stands ready to promote the comprehensive partnership on the basis of respecting the respective political regime in favour of benefits, regional stability and development.

The host leader suggested that the US congress continue supporting the ending of the US Department of Agriculture's catfish inspection program and the acceleration of bilateral trade through importing Vietnamese commodities as well as bringing more U.S. goods to the Vietnamese market.

He also asked the US side to continue assisting Viet Nam in completing the detoxification of Da Nang airport and launch the work in Bien Hoa airport.

Both sides should also enhance cooperation in search and rescue during natural disasters and increase partnership in the defense industry, he stated.

For his part, Senator McCain underlined that the U.S.-Viet Nam comprehensive partnership is in the best time since the countries normalized their diplomatic relations.

The senator confirmed that he supports the US congress and government to continue cooperating with and supporting Vietnam in implementing the Agent orange/dioxin detoxification project, overcoming war aftermaths, search and rescue, and other areas of shared interest./.
