Swiss-funded project helps children with disabilities in Quang Binh

VGP – The Caritas Switzerland (CARSWI), in coordination with the Association for Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (AEPD) in central Quang Binh province on September 11 launched a humanitarian project in support of handicapped children.

Under the US$435,000 project, to be carried out in nine communes in Quang Trach, Le Thuy district, and Dong Hoi city, from now till December 2016, about 500 children with disabilities will receive aid to access rehabilitation centres and integrate into the community.

Basic medical equipment will be supplied to specialised schools, communal medical stations and disabled children based on their needs.

Quang Binh has a high number of people exposed to toxic Agent Orange/Dioxin sprayed the US troops during the Viet Nam war. It now has about 45,000 people with disabilities, including 4,000 children.
