Thailand, Vietnam cooperate to increase rice prices for more fairness

Thai Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives Chalermchai Sri-on said on Saturday that Thailand and Vietnam had agreed on further cooperation to increase the price of exported rice to ensure more fairness in the wake of rising production costs. The special working group of the two countries will soon hold a meeting to discuss the details of the cooperation agreement with the goal of unifying steps towards increasing export rice prices in line with production costs. In the long term, the two countries will ask India and other rice exporting countries to strengthen cooperation, instead of competition, to regulate export rice prices at a reasonable level.

Thailand is currently the third largest rice exporter in the world, after India and Vietnam. Thailand aims to export 7 million tons of rice this year.
