The Ha Noi Red Cross Society contributes to implementing the Capital’s social welfare policies

In 2016, the Ha Noi Red Cross Society has achieved great gains, contributing to ensuring social welfare policies of the country and the capital.

The Municipal Red Cross Society presents the playground for Agent Orange (AO) victims.

As a pivotal bridge in charitable work, in 2016, the Red Cross Society has organized numerous practical activities, emulation movements, campaigns, contributing to ensuring social welfare and new-style rural construction.

Especially, thanks to the movement "Tet for the poor and AO victims" and the campaign "Bank for cows - Joining hands to help people in poor districts, border communes in building new rural areas", the Society has given 122,473 gifts worth over VND46.5 billion to poor households, AO victims, disabled people; presented 25 cows worth VND380 million; raised VND980 million for people affected by drought and submerge as well as VND4.5 billion supporting flood victims in the Central region, etc.

Furthermore, Red Cross Associations at all levels have jointly provided free health checkups, medicines for 125,082 turns of people with the total cost of nearly VND10 billion; maintained models for public health care in the community; established and developed 78 first aid stalls in communes, wards, towns of 14 districts, such as: Cau Giay, Ha Dong, Phu Xuyen, Soc Son, Dong Anh, Long Bien, Tay Ho, Thuong Tin, etc, contributing to minimizing deaths due to traffic accidents. After all, in 2016, the Society has spent over VND13.5 billion on public heath care in the area.

Numerous volunteers respond to voluntary blood donation campaigns.

In addition, over the past year, the Municipal Red Cross Society has cooperated with the Ha Noi Youth's Blood Donation Mobilization Association to organize various blood donation festivals, such as: Red Sunday, Youth Day, etc drawing the participation of dozens of thousands of people; received 193,223 units of safe blood, accounting for 133% against the plan.

Besides, the Society has also paid more attention to the red cross youth to attract many more youths to positively take part in humanitarian activities, contributing to educating morality, personality for students. By now, the Society has 430,913 red cross youths, 40,134 members.

According to Chairman of the Municipal Red Cross Society Nguyen Sy Truong, to promote the gained achievements, in 2017, the Society will strengthen communication on Viet Nam Red Cross Society, International Red Crescent Movement, guidelines, policies of the Party, laws on red cross operation of the State; continue boosting the campaign "Each organization, individual supports a humanitarian address", the program "Bank for cows - joining hands to help poor districts, border communes to build new style rural areas", etc; mobilize all available resources to proactively cope with natural disasters if occur; replicate models which operating effectively in the humanitarian work; organize activities to take care of public health, especially difficult cases in remote areas; enrich knowledge, skills of initial first aid, accident prevention and control in the community; continue boosting communication on voluntary blood donation to create a new breakthrough of blood donation in the capital city.
