TPP members commit to economic, trade integration

Members of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) committed to seeking a new path to promote regional economic and trade integration at a meeting in Vina del Mar, Chile on Wednesday.

It was their first gathering since the US withdrew from the deal. Chile's Foreign Minister Heraldo Munoz told reporters that 11 TPP members, excluding the US, still affirm the importance of the deal and are considering several options going forward. He said a ministers meeting will be convened in May to decide the future of the pact.

In a short communique issued following the meeting, US Ambassador to Chile Carol Perez said the White House is ready to hold dialogues with Asian-Pacific partners and hopes to continue being a key player in the region.
