Trump says US will quit TPP on his first day in office

President-elect Donald Trump said on Monday that the US will quit the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal on his first day in office. Trump made the announcement in a video outlining what he intends to do first when he takes office in January.

He added that he will restrict new government regulations, direct the labor department to investigate abuses of visa programs, and cancel restrictions on production of shale, gas, and coal.

During his campaign, Trump called the TPP agreement a potential disaster for the US by exporting jobs to countries with low-cost labor.

On Monday, President Barack Obama said in Lima, Peru, that the TPP will not be revoked, adding that Asia-Pacific leaders have agreed to push forward TPP efforts
