Turkey to recruit 30,000 new soldiers

Turkey's armed forces will recruit 30,000 new personnel to fill vacancies following the dismissal of personnel suspected of involvement in the coup attempt of July 15, the Anadolu news agency reported on Wednesday.

Ankara has arrested 9,300 military officers, and dismissed or suspended thousand more who are suspected of being loyal to Muslim preacher Fethullah Gulen, who is living in self-imposed exile in the US and who has been accused of being an architect of the coup.

Turkey's armed forces are currently fighting Kurdish insurgents in the mainly Kurdish southeast and various rebel forces along Turkey's border with Syria.
