Ukrainian president denies involvement in US election scandal

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy dismissed claims that US President Donald Trump urged him to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden, the leading presidential candidate for the Democratic Party in 2020.

This is the first time the Ukrainian leader has talked to foreign media about the allegations that have led to an impeachment investigation of President Trump.

In an interview with Japan's Kyodo news agency last Saturday, President Zelenskiy said he was never pressured and did not agree to talk to Mr. Trump in return for arms sales. President Zelenskiy denied US media reports that Trump conditioned an invitation to the Oval Office or sales of Javelin anti-tank weapons to Kiev on a promise to investigate Biden.
