UN chief calls for end to humanitarian crisis in Myanmar

Conditions in Myanmar's Rakhine state are still not stable enough for the safe, voluntary return of Rohingya refugees to their home, Secretary General Antonio Guterres told a UN Security Council meeting on Tuesday.

He urged UN members to work with Myanmar to ensure immediate and unrestricted access by refugees.

Guterres said international cooperation is the key to ensuring that all supporting mechanisms are implemented in a reliable, transparent, and independent manner. He called for further international funding to deal with the Myanmar crisis, saying money for this work is still 33% short of what is required.
