UN Security Council holds extraordinary meeting on Jerusalem

The United Nations Security Council on Friday held an emergency meeting on US President Donald Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

The decision has damaged US policies for decades and sparked concerns and disapproval from the US allies.

Speaking to Sputnik news agency, Fathi Abu al-Aradat, representative of Fatah and the Palestinian Liberation Organization, strongly condemned Trump's decision to move the US Embassy to Jerusalem and to recognize the city as Israel's capital. He added that Jerusalem's fate must be determined by the city's residents and by the Palestinians who consider the city their capital.

The official said Trump's decision threatens the foundation of peace and justice and violates the rights of Palestinians, Muslims, and Catholics.
