UNSC meets on Sudan, Somalia, Mali, Golan Heights

The UN Security Council met on Monday to discuss the situation in the Golan Heights. Ambassador Pham Hai Anh, deputy head of the Vietnamese Mission to the UN, said he is concerned about continuing violations of the troop withdrawal agreement. Mr. Anh called on all parties to show restraint and respect agreements, international regulations, and UNSC decisions, to maintain regional peace and stability.

He praised the UN Disengagement Observer Force for easing tensions in the region and stressed the importance of protecting UN peacekeepers, particularly from unexploded ordnance.

Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, head of the Vietnamese Mission to the UN, expressed concern about recent developments in Mali and said the coup poses risks for the transition process and could lead to instability and difficulties in implementing the 2015 peace agreement.

He called on all parties to step up efforts towards conciliation, restraint, and settling differences through dialogues and consultations.

The UNSC also heard reports on its committees’ operations in Sudan and Somalia.
