US announces sanctions on business network financing Iranian paramilitary force

The US Treasury Department on Tuesday slapped sanctions on a network of businesses that provide financial support to an Iranian paramilitary force that Washington says recruits and trains child soldiers for Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps.

The new sanctions are part of the US's campaign of maximum economic pressure against Tehran. In announcing the sanctions, the Treasury Department said a network of more than 20 businesses known as the Bonyad Taavon Basij finances the Basij Resistance Force, a component of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
