US calls for clear dialogue on Code of Conduct in East Sea
The US is calling on ASEAN and China to talk transparently about the Code of Conduct in the East Sea, according to Patrick Murphy, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Southeast Asia. Negotiations will require input from the international community, which is closely concerned, Murphy said.
The US considers the East Sea a key marine route and wants to ensure an effective cooperative solution, Murphy said, adding that the international community wants de-escalation in the East Sea. He said the US is planning meetings with ASEAN and its partners to work toward long-term solutions to current disputes in the East Sea.
