US, China to resume comprehensive economic dialogue

The US and China have agreed to restart semi-annual talks aimed at resolving their economic and trade disputes.

The Wall Street Journal on Saturday said that the Comprehensive Economic Dialogue is expected to be announced on Wednesday as part of the initial trade agreement between the US and China. US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and Chinese Vice Premier Liu He will lead the dialogue sessions.

The China-US Strategic Economic Dialogue began in 2006 and was renamed in 2009 to the Strategic and Economic Dialogue, and then the Comprehensive Economic Dialogue in 2017.

Recent trade tensions halted the twice-yearly meeting and led to talks between the two countries to focus on tariffs.
