Hanoi: A training range for explosive material disposal, funded by the Office of Defence Cooperation (ODC) of the US Embassy in Vietnam, was inaugurated and handed over to the Vietnam National Mine Action Centre (VNMAC) at a ceremony in Hanoi on March 24. The range, which was commenced in July 2024 with a non-refundable aid worth over 700,000 USD (about 17 billion VND), covers 2ha in Ba Vi district of Hanoi.
According to Vietnam News Agency, the training range is designed to enhance the capabilities of Vietnamese personnel in safely disposing of explosive ordnance. The facility is expected to play a critical role in addressing the remnants of explosive materials from past conflicts, contributing to national safety and environmental restoration efforts.
The US Embassy's Office of Defence Cooperation has been actively involved in supporting Vietnam's initiatives to mitigate the impact of unexploded ordnance. This collaboration underscores the commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and promoting peace and security in the region.
The Vietnam National Mine Action Centre will oversee the operations of the newly handed-over facility. The centre is tasked with coordinating national efforts in mine action and ensuring the effective use of resources in dealing with explosive remnants of war.
