US, Mexico pledge to aid Central America

Mexican Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard told reporters on Tuesday that Mexico and the US will spend 35.6 billion USD to develop Central America.

Mr. Ebrard said the US will provide 5.8 billion USD to strengthen economic development in the Northern Triangle of El Salvador, Honduras, and Guatemala, and 4.8 billion USD for economic development and employement projects in Mexico.

The US State Department said Washington is committed to promoting a safe and prosperous Central America.

The US and Mexico will meet later next month to establish a group to monitor the plan's implementation.
